Plagiarism: “The practice of taking someone else’s work or ideas and passing them off as one’s own” Oxford Dictionaries. In general, the manuscript should not already have been formally published in any journal or in any other citable form. If justified and made clear upon submission, there are exceptions to this rule. Journal of Business Strategy Finance and Management uses the Advanced Plagiarism Detection Software (CrossCheck by iThenticate) to detect instances of overlapping and similar text in submitted manuscripts. It generates a similarity report, highlighting the percentage of overlap between the uploaded article and the published material. Any instance of content overlap is further scrutinized for suspected plagiarism according to the publisher’s Editorial Policies. Journal of Business Strategy Finance and Management allows an overall similarity of 15% for a manuscript to be considered for publication. The acceptable limit for similarity of text from a single source is 5%. If the similarity level is above 5%, the manuscript is returned to the author for paraphrasing the text and citing the original source of the copied material.
